I get the impression that many people living in Kyoto work near Kyoto City, and relatively few people commute from Osaka-Kobe. After all, the city of Kyoto itself is attractive, and I think there are many people who seek food, clothing, and shelter in Kyoto.

I was born and raised in Kyoto, and I love the city so much that I have never wanted to leave. I'm often asked about the charm of the city, but I end up answering, "It feels like Kyoto," which lacks specificity.
I think people who live in Kyoto always feel the Kyoto-ness. Of course, there are many old-fashioned buildings that give it a sense of elegance, but it is a city with a charm that cannot be expressed by just that.
