Know Your Community (Osaka Edition): Terminals Ibaraki Opening Party!

Know Your Community (Osaka Edition): Terminals Ibaraki Opening Party!
Hello everyone! This is Ichikawa from the Tokyo Social Apartment Sales Department.
I just had the pleasure of going to Osaka to get the scoop on what our communities out West in the Kansai area are like.

My timing couldn’t have been better because our sales team in Kansai were holding an opening party for our newest property Terminals Ibaraki the day we arrived.
About 25 people total from our other Social Apartments in Kansai Terminals Takatsuki and Otowa Kobe-Motomachi.
By the time my colleagues and I arrived at the property, tenants from Terminals Ibaraki and Terminals Takatsuki were already in the kitchen whipping up an amazing looking Mexican feast. One of the best parts about Terminals Ibaraki is the open kitchen! There was plenty of Corona and guacamole, but even a Mexican-themed party in Osaka isn’t complete without the classic Kansai dish, Takoyaki. (Did we mention there’s a takoyaki grill in every one of our properties?)
I grew up in Northeast Japan where we don’t really have this kind of culture, so I was shocked to say the least, (and a little jealous, Takoyaki is so good). Now it’s time to party! Other tenants from the property started to come out as soon as the amazing looking food hit the table. It was really great to see everyone from all of our properties introduce themselves to each other. It wasn’t too hard for everyone to get to know each other with a cold beer in hand and a plate of amazing food. The tenants in Osaka were even nice enough to start giving lessons to first-timers. Apparently it’s all in the wrists! After getting our fill of the amazing spread, we gradually moved to the second lounge to enjoy a game or two of billiards. Billiards is a really great icebreaker when you are meeting people for the first time. and the atmosphere got even better when the advanced players started teaching the beginners. Again, there’s nothing like a game of billiards over a cold beer. (Ok, I didn’t drink that much and I technically wasn’t at work!) Your own private beer garden! One last cheer on the Terminals Ibaraki roof. Everyone gathered together on the rooftop terrace at the very end to wrap things up with a finals cheers. It was so amazing to see people make friends with tenants from other properties and I heard multiple people invite others to their properties. (Even I got an invitation to Motomachi-Kobe the next day!) Here’s our last group photo. Even though there’s tenants from all three Kansai properties and Social Apartment Staff too, at the end of the day everyone were just friends at a good house party. At the end of the day, I could tell that our communities in Kansai were only going to grow stronger and stronger and that the concept works just as well if not even better (they do say that people in Kansai are friendly, right?) in Western Japan.

We are still looking for new members to join our community at Terminals Ibaraki. How about joining the party? ◇Terminals Ibaraki: https://www.social-apartment.com/eng/builds/osaka/ibaraki-shi/view/59 (Text by ICHIKAWA)

New beginnings in Japan? Start off on the right foot with Social Apartments
A warm welcome to Japan, from all of us to you! Moving to a new country is a big step. It can be challenging and scary to start the next phase of your life in unknown territory. Some people are lucky enough to have visited Japan before moving, maybe even have some friends already living here. But many people don’t have that sort of luxury. They come to Japan starting from zero. Naturally, you want to get adjusted as quickly as possible. That mean finding a place to live, getting used to the area, making friends, learning about the culture and so much more. Doing all this by yourself is no small task. Well, I’ll let you in on a golden secret. There is an easy way to make friends on day one in Japan. The kind of people who would love to show you around, share their culture and welcome you with open arms. Sounds too good to be true right? Well, the secret real and it’s easy. Move into a Social Apartment! Social Apartments are extremely foreign friendly and make getting an apartment in Japan a smooth experience, even while still overseas. They come with fully equipped kitchens, lounges and there are even a few furnished rooms available. This means buying all new furniture becomes no problem. One less thing to worry about and make your transition to Japan a little less stressful. Check out the cool lounges! A great way to relax with friends at the end of the day! While the buildings are all stylish and well equipped, the true value of the Social Apartment comes from the people who live there. International communities of bright and friendly people waiting to welcome you to your new home in Japan. The residents would be more than happy to help you get starting with your new life in Japan. Show you new places, teach you about the language and culture, and take you on new and exciting experiences. Because there is a good mix of both Japanese natives and residents for foreign countries, you get to experience real Japanese culture and also have a taste of cultures from all over the world. The people are what can make Japan start to feel like home. Look at these smiling faces all waiting to greet you! This is a topic very near and dear to my heart. When I first came to Japan, I was starting from zero. I had no contacts and had to figure things out for myself. I can never forget that experience. It was a little scary but exciting. There were many challenges, but after I moved into the social apartments, this got significantly easier. I made Japanese friends who I could reach out if I ever needed anything. Thanks to them I was able to make the most of my time in Japan so far. Moving into the Social Apartments was one of the best decisions I have ever made. In fact, you may remember me from this interview a few years ago! https://www.social-apartment.com/eng/lifestyle/detail/Neighborsstoriesvol1 At that time, I was working as an English teacher, but after having so many great experiences with Social Apartments I started to work for them! During that interview, I said my motto was “one day at a time”. I didn’t know what the future would bring. Who would have guessed that eventually, I`d become a member of the Social Apartment team? After coming to Japan with absolutely nothing, Social Apartments helped me find a home, a group of close friends, memorable experiences, and even a job! I hope that they can do the same for you as well. Here is me at one of the Social Apartment sister hotels, Hotel Unwind Sapporo! Traveling? Stop by! So, do yourself a favor, get your Japan experience started off right. It is the best and easiest way to adjust to Japan and start having fun. The residents are ready and waiting to welcome you to the community. We hope to see you soon!

The welcome party was held at the central place of life at Neighbors Inokashira-Koen, the lounge. Residents took on a central by offering to cook for everyone, with a surprising talent to the delight of fellow residents. Check out these two who were the chefs behind these amazing meals. Who can say no to these guys? Apparently, they had prepared since the previous night! So kind! Social Apartment has a spacious kitchen with plenty of brand appliances and even a convection oven for anyone who likes to cook!Let’s take a peek at the delicious dishes that they came up with for the party! Acqua Pazza in a hot plate! How creative! Some grilled dishes from the oven too! They even made some fresh fish. This roast beef looks like it was served at a restaurant! Individual pot pies using Le Creuset ware! These dishes wouldn’t lose out even to a pro chef, it’s obvious how excited they were to welcome everyone!Just as everything came to place everyone gathered at the long table. Hanging out with old and new friends, it was easy to have a good time when everyone lives together. Chowing down and having a good time. The kitchen is open and facing the lounge so it’s easy to be a part of the fun. People hanging out on the terrace off of the lounge. Looks fun surrounded by those trees. They had their own set up at the terrace too… Someone brought a smoker for some smoked cheese and even smoked Gyouza dumplings! The party went on ’til after sunset when it was time for dessert. Social Gaming Night『SUPER SMASH BROTHERS ULTIMATE』 Tournament
EVENT
Social Gaming Night『SUPER SMASH BROTHERS ULTIMATE』 Tournament
Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwjdf92DDdI/ On the 21st of April this year, we held our very first Social Gaming Night at The Millennials Shibuya, an event where avid gamers from all our Social Apartments gathered to prove once and for all, who has the most thumb dexterity and coordination. For our first event, we decided to hold a 64-player tournament of the latest installation for the ever-popular Nintendo series, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Alike a real gaming tournament, we had a proper tournament with respective brackets, rules, different tables in which players were stationed, and even prizes to be won. The event was all excitement from beginning to end, getting a chance to see some of the best players from each property go head to head, as well as some of the worst players being brutally toyed with, not a pleasant sight for the audience in attendance. Unlike a real serious tournament though, there were alcoholic beverages casually provided, which was obviously seen by some of the players erratic performance. As players had come from various properties, each tenant represented more than themselves; the weight of the properties they represent rest on their very shoulders. Much pre-game antics and boasting was displayed as well, with some unable to prove their words, modesty was a character trait that had to be learned by many that night. All in all, the games were very friendly and everyone in attendance had a blast. From those who came just to observe the games and cheer on their fellow tenants, to those who climbed the tournament bracket to the heated final games, the event exceeded everyone’s expectations of a gaming event hosted by a real-estate company. From the semi-finals, the games were played individually on a big projector screen for everyone in attendance to cheer and jeer. Some of the highest skills ever seen by Social Apartment tenants were displayed that night, with every game from the semi-final keeping the audience breathless and in awe, the disparity in skill between these games from most of our first-round losses playing as Kirby were very apparent. The event proved to be a great social event, with many people making friends with those from other properties. Throughout the event you could see different players actively practicing with each other in various parts of the event venue, a great chance to find like-minded gamers, new friendships were made that night (and maybe some were lost due to pride). The top 3 players of the tournament all received prizes, with 3rd place receiving 5,000yen, 2nd place receiving 10,000yen, and the tenant from World Neighbors Gokokuji who won first place receiving 30,000yen. The final game was a gasp worthy game between an aggressive Link and a defensive Inkling, with Link proving to be a tad better at using his projectiles to secure the win. With many tenants who had never joined a Social Apartment event before making their first participation at the Social Gaming Night, many voiced their encouragement for a second event sometime in the near future (Mario Kart anyone…?).

A Walk in the Charming Inokashira-Koen Neighborhood
AREA
A Walk in the Charming Inokashira-Koen Neighborhood
Just one station away from one of Tokyo’s trendiest and popular towns, Kichijouji, is a peaceful yet extraordinary area. Inokashira-Koen Station is just at the tip of the infamous Inokashira Park, most loved for its beautiful Cherry Blossoms in the Spring. This is the setting of our latest property, Neighbors Inokashira-Koen. Kichijouji is an Indie town with plenty of delicious places to eat welcoming standing bars and shopping from department stores to fashionable refurbished finds, it is full of excitement. While not nearly as large as Kichijouji station (JR Chuo Line and Keio Inokashira Line), Inokashira-Koen Station does have its own charm likened to that of a Ghibli film. (Speaking of which, the Ghibli Museum is actually located a short walk from here as well.) Rather than take the about 15-minute walk from Kichijouji Station, I decided to check out the quaint area of Inokashira-Koen Station on my way to Neighbors Inokashira-Koen. The station itself is quite small, but as soon as you get off the train you are met with beautiful vibrant greenery just beyond the large windows. I have heard from locals that if you follow the small stream behind the station you will reach a large open field, unknown to the visitors of Kichijouji. Neighbors are often here to enjoy an afternoon nap or throw a ball with their kids. Just out of the station, to the right is the entrance to the tranquil and lush Inokashira Park. Just along the park, there are numerous cafes and small restaurants. A blues acoustic guitar melody lead me to one specific cafe, “Yoimachigusa,” “Evening Primrose”. The owner, Kaya is very friendly and always has a spare guitar ready for anyone who wants to try. The cafe offers a variety of drinks from hand drip coffee, fresh traditional matcha and even a Goya (bitter gourd) and banana smoothie. Of course I had to try the smoothie, which was refreshing and paired very well with the banana. The cafe also serves as a gathering place for artists of all backgrounds. It was originally exclusively a gallery but now displays artwork, jewelry and even live performances. Local Japanese artists to Native American Flute players and even Italian opera singers have performed here. You are sure to meet someone interesting while enjoying the very uniquily down to earth atmosphere. The 2nd floor is also used as a Yoga studio. The space is small and comfortable and the teacher very gentle, so it is a great spot for first timers as well. After spending a relaxing time at the cafe and around the station, it was time to head towards the property. Right at the beginning of that path there is a convenience store, Japan Post ATM and more small shops. A peaceful yet convenient walk home. Most of the path is straight with a turn to the right. There is plenty of greenery on your way home too. The neighborhood is quiet with many large homes and families. Cars generally don’t come down the path either so it is a stress-free walk home. Finally after turning you enter a small path that really does look like a scene from a Miyazaki film. Just out of the small path, and right before reaching the property, there is another convenience store and even a small Bento shop with home made boxed lunches. It takes about 6-8 minutes or so to reach the property from the station. The large Zelkova tree and greenery will welcome you home. The neighborhood around the property is very peaceful with elementary schools and kindergartens nearby, so you can be sure it is a safe neighborhood. While not as active as Kichijouji the many shops in the area were humbling and were so welcoming you feel right at home. The local Keio Inokashira line stops at Inokashira-Koen Station. If you have a bit of time in the morning you could sit all the way to Shibuya or change in Medaimae to go to Shinjuku. Kichijouji is always close by for more shopping and excitement, but coming home to such a relaxing and peaceful area, maybe stopping by for coffee or even some Yoga at the end of the day with a Social Apartment community? – That is definitely one of the best ways to end a day.

Our brand new UNWIND HOTEL & BAR opens in Otaru, Hokkaido
NEWS
Our brand new UNWIND HOTEL & BAR opens in Otaru, Hokkaido
We are proud to announce has we have just opened the second location of our luxury lifestyle hotel brand UNWIND HOTEL & BAR. The first location in the series opened in early 2017 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, and won numerous awards in addition to being ranked the No. 1 hotel in all of Sapporo. We have now brought the UNWIND HOTEL & BAR brand to the culturally rich city of Otaru, one of Hokkaido’s leading tourist destinations. We decided to revamp the former Etchuya Hotel, a local symbol and historical building constructed in 1931 that was the very first hotel dedicated to serving foreigners in Hokkaido after World War I. We committed to preserving the hotel’s heritage and original facade while also giving the long-time vacant property a full interior renovation and offering guests a truly unique and refined experience. The hotel also offers brand-new facilities and services such as a stylish bar and a banquet hall that doubles as a restaurant with a lively “Happy Hour” featuring endless free wine. The first things guests will experience at UNWIND HOTEL & BAR OTARU is the unique architectural design and aesthetic. The building was originally designed by Kuniharu Karasawa and was listed in British travel guides as early as the late 1800s. The former Etchuya building was a symbol of Otaru’s status as a port-hub for international trade with an annex that exclusively served foreigners. The view from the facade and its perpendicular fenestrations are a major feature of the building with two rows of bay windows surrounded by circular windows on either side. The influence of post-World War I Art Deco design on Karasawa is also seen in his liberal use of stained glass throughout the interior. The classic exterior and newly renovated interior will allow guests to experience a unique mix of historical classic and modern design during their stay. As the guest passes through the entrance to the lobby, they are greeted by a gorgeous chandelier and rustic fireplace giving them the feeling of entering a completely different world. The former ballroom of the building has been transformed into THE BALL, a unique dining experience where guests can enjoy seasonal ingredients and local cuisine in a stylish setting. The ballroom also doubles as a banquet space that can be used for large events and weddings. The combination of the unique location and historic design will provide guests with a truly original wedding experience. After dinner, guests can move to BAR IGNIS, a stylish bar designed with guest interaction in mind that features an unlimited free wine happy hour held every day from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the hotel will offer a modern take on English-style Afternoon Tea by serving it as a complimentary breakfast. Our CEO Takeshi Yamasaki notes that “preserving the historical aspect of the building and the area surrounding was a huge challenge but integral to the conception of this hotel. The building’s rich history gives us the chance to offer guests a unique experience that can transcend a typical stay.” Tourism in the Otaru area has been dramatically increasing over the past few years and with the pending opening of the Hokkaido shinkansen Shin-Otaru Station, the demand for new accommodations has never been higher. We already have plans to open six new hotels throughout Japan this year, as well as our first international hotel in Taipei (Taiwan), currently scheduled to open this Fall 2019. Stay tuned for more soon! DON’T FORGET THAT YOU GET 15% OFF AT ANY OF OUR HOTEL IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY LIVING AT SOCIAL APARTMENT! OFFICIAL WEBSITE: https://www.hotel-unwind.com/otaru/
